Downtown Beaufort Featured Merchant: Lowcountry Stitch

“I started embroidery when I was on bed rest with my first daughter. I needed a few things embroidered and my mom was a seamstress, so I grabbed her machine and taught myself. I continued doing clothing for my girls—I just couldn’t give it up. I loved doing it and it became a hobby. Then people in town just started asking, ‘Can you do this? Can you do that?’, so I started doing porch pickups. I had two jobs at that point, my full-time job doing residential construction and then on my way home, I would pick up and drop off embroidery orders.

I went on with that until I knew that my passion for embroidery was not going anywhere.

You can walk into Lowcountry Stitch, and anything in the shop can be monogrammed, custom embroidered or personalized. You can also bring in your personal items to be done. We custom stitch everything here in-house and we have three machines going five days a week.

I love the fact that I have gotten to work with so many great people. Our customers come in and we get to design all kinds of different projects. Each project is different, whether in their color scheme, design, and all of that. It’s instant gratification just to see all the different projects because no two are the same.

We’ve also gotten into corporate logos, so we do that type of work as well. So, we’ve gotten to know a lot of the local business customers as well. The businesses support other local businesses here, and it’s really great to see that community come together. It’s about the relationships that we have with our customers.

As a whole, I love the fact that we are a small community. I always say that it’s good to be in a small community where you know everyone, as long as you keep your nose clean.

If you do, everybody comes and rallies around each other and really lifts each other up when you need it. That has been like the best thing about being on Bay Street and having the community here. I see my customers in the grocery store, and we’ll say to each other, Hi! How is everything going?’ I have customers that have come to watch my daughter perform. It’s just that the community rallies together.”
