“I started playing viola when I was nine…and just kept playing! Today, I own Rabinowitz Music Studio where I offer lessons for strings, voice and piano. I also have other teachers that come in and teach. Learning music is amazing and it’s really fun to be able to play an instrument with other people. The discipline that it gives you is amazing, as well as a growth mindset.
I’m playing more now than I am teaching. I didn’t think I’d be going in that direction, but this is a big wedding area, and there are a lot of gated plantation communities having dinners and brunches. Charleston and Savannah both have symphonies, and they have a wide range of people that play there. There’s a lot of musicians that are playing gigs, and they need people, so I get called for those.
I love the rush that you get from playing and seeing people that enjoy the music is wonderful. Playing with other people, vibing together and creating is one of my favorite things about playing. On the teaching side, I love having students, both children and adults, who love learning and are excited about playing and getting things right.
After all these years and being back in Beaufort, it’s really pretty here. I like being right near the beach and there’s a lot to do outside. I’m not very athletic, but I like to spend time outside, because I have two boys that are three and five years old. They like to be outside too, and we don’t want them inside destroying everything.
It’s great to be here and I love my students and working with them every week.”
